Golf Course Instruction
Wednesday, October 27th, 2010One of the best places and times to get instruction on golf is on the actual golf course. Instead of playing with your usual group of friends, consider going to the golf course as a single and asking to be paired up with new people. It’s best to play with people who are slightly more advanced that you. By doing so, you’ll glean some invaluable tips by just watching how they hit the ball. Notice how better players set up to the ball and watch their fundamentals like stance, posture, and grip. Also, take note about the decisions that they make when going about the course. Also, don’t be embarrassed to ask a better player for tips. Most people will be glad to offer advice if you ask for it.
What makes a perfect swing?
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010If you talk to different people, you might get different ideas on what makes the perfect golf swing. Talk to Tiger, and he might tell you that the perfect swing is one built on power. Talk to Ernie about the golf swing and he’ll likely say that tempo matters most. So what is the right answer to this question? In short, the golf swing is one that must be done as a whole.
It is a moving, living being. If you want to have a good golf swing, then you have to be prepared to work hard. There are many moving parts, so there will always be times when the swing is not perfect. This should not deter you, though. You should work hard to improve your swing and fix it when it breaks down.
golf tips for beginners
Thursday, September 30th, 2010While many sports require people to be in good physical condition to play, golf can be played by people of all ages. Unfortunately, learning to play golf can be quite difficult and not knowing how to play properly can be quite embarrassing. Luckily, there are several golf tips for beginners which can be used to help improve their score.
Most common golf tips for beginners revolve around the golf stroke. While it is natural to want to hit the ball as hard as possible, it is actually counter productive to do so. To hit the ball cleanly with control and accuracy, it is actually far better to hold the club steadily and concentrate on a steady swing. As you ability progresses, you could begin to try to hit the ball harder.
You can teach yourself a lot about golf, but you need a good foundation.
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010I’ve taken a few golf swing lessons over the years, and they really helped my game, but for the most part, I’ve been self-taught. I think it’s good to get a mix of formal training, and self-instruction. Some golfers really need some personal tutoring to get started, but if you buy a few books, I think it’s possible to learn a lot about the game on your own.
I recently gave some golf swing lessons to a friend of mine, and I think they’ve really helped him out. Now that he has a solid foundation, he can probably teach himself everything else he needs to know.
What happens in a golf lesson…
Monday, August 9th, 2010For some folks. the idea of getting a professional golf lesson is very appealing. They have heard stories from friends about the improvements made. and they want to see what all the fuss is about. But what can you expect to learn in a professional golf lesson… That will be dependent upon the specific pro that you go to. but most will handle the lesson basically the same way.
While in a golf lesson. you will take a few swings for the pro. From there. he will take either a technological approach or a basic one to fixing your swing. If you have easy to see problems. he will provide you with new techniques and drills to test them. If your problems are more complicated. he may use video analysis to help you make improvements.
Golf Swing Sequence
Friday, July 2nd, 2010An analysis of the golf swing sequence of Tiger Woods shows that he has several problems that are causing him to lose distance and miss balls left and right of target.
For one, Tiger is making a mistake on his backswing by taking the club too far out, resulting in a very flat plane. Next, the slow motion golf swing sequence shows that at the top of the swing his club is laid off. This makes it difficult for him to release the club naturally. Instead he has to rely on perfect timing. Next, Tiger’s downswing is too steep, causing either a slice or a pull hook. Finally, Tiger is exiting his swing on a flatter angle than his initial plane, which is causing a slight power loss during shots.
How much can individual lessons help my game?
Thursday, July 1st, 2010Before you take the dive and start with one-on-one golf instruction, you should go over the advantages and disadvantages of this sort of approach. Can individual lessons truly make me better or am I wasting my time? Some people think that once you reach a certain level, one-on-one golf instruction is unnecessary. This is just not true, as even the best players in the world still use a swing coach.
The growth that you can make as an individual has everything to do with how much time you put into the game. Some players will just take lessons and leave it at that. Other players will leave the instruction period and practice the things they have learned. No matter what your handicap is, application of principles will bring it down a few notches.
Stop Hooking My Golf Shots
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010One of the questions that golfers ask themselves is, “How can I stop hooking my golf shots?” A lot of amateur receive bad advice about what causes a hook or a slice. One of the best ways that a golfer can stop asking himself, “How do I stop hooking my golf shots,” is to know what causes certain ball flights.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not the club path from in to out that causes a hook. Rather, it is a closed club face. If the face of the club is pointed to the left, the ball is going to start left no matter the swing path. To stop hooking the ball, you have to make sure that your club face is square or open relative to the club path.
