Did Harvey Penick write the best book on golf?
Friday, August 13th, 2010Having played golf since the age of 5, it’s hard to say which has been the best book on golf I’ve read over the years.
If I had to choose one however, it would be Harvey Penick’s Little Red book. A great collection of stories impart great golf wisdom and there is something in that little book on golf for every golfer from a beginner facing struggles to hit the ball consistently, all the way through to Tiger and his current mental slump.
It’s not just a book on golf, it’s a book about a past time steeped in traditions and rules that teach a person much, much more than how to hit a ball.
It takes you back to a time before over sized drivers, rescue clubs or hybrids and when putting was about finesse and feel, not broom sticks and bellies.
Picking out the right golf book
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009Some golfers head down to their local book store with ideas on buying a golf book. They know that they want to read about golf, but they have no idea exactly what they want to buy. You can find lots of different types of books on the subject, and it really depends upon what sort of things you are interested in. You could find a great fiction golf book or you might go with something non-fiction about your favorite golfer.
Some folks might choose a golf book that talks about all the great golf courses in the world. It comes down to what you love about the game of golf. No matter which golf book you end up choosing, you will be in for a treat. There are so many great golfers who have written about golf and their works are just as interesting as the game itself.
