Keep Your Head Down – Raise Your Game

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

If you’re looking for a quick golf swing tip that can help your game, then I might have one for you. Everyone knows that you have to keep your eyes on the ball; they even teach you that in sports like baseball and football. However, by keeping your head down, you will ensure that you maintain body alignment through the entire swing. If you take your eyes off the ball right before you hit it, then your shoulders and body will follow along. Just changing your head slightly can affect your swing dramatically. Hopefully this little golf swing tip can help improve your game the next time you’re on the course.

How to Aim

Monday, June 28th, 2010

The first step in aiming a golf shot is to stand behind the ball and pick a target. Then, draw a line from that target to the golf ball. Next, pick a spot in between the golf ball and the target that is approximately 1 to 2 feet away. This will be the intermediate target. Line up your club head so that its face is perpendicular to the line between the ball and the intermediate target. The reason for selecting an intermediate target is that it is easier to aim at a spot that is 2 feet away than one that is 200 yards away. Now, take your normal setup and grip and then hit the ball. The ball should start on the target line and head down the fairway. By keeping this beginner golf lesson in mind, you will eliminate one variable if the ball lands off line.

Chipping for the win

Monday, April 12th, 2010

If I were asked to give out some of the best golf chipping tips to players who wanted to improve, I would tell them that it’s all about keeping their head down and concentrating. These two golf chipping tips will save far more bad shots than almost anything else. Too many people want to hit their chips, then look up to see if it’s going in the hole. This opens up a number of bad possibilities. You might skull the chip or you might hit under it, leaving you nowhere near the hole.

If you keep your head down and you concentrate, you will put the ball somewhere near the hole. You won’t even need to look, then, because you will know with certainty that the ball is right beside the pin.

Easy Putting Tips

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Excellence in putting is basically accomplished through practice, but intermittent practice is not enough. Regular, focused practice is the key to becoming a great putter. In golf, learning is accomplished through using the best method and repeating that method until the action comes so naturally that you don’t have to think about it again. While practicing, it will help immensely to remember these basic tips:

1. Sight the target over the ball – You can be slightly on the inside of the ball, but never sight from an outside vantage point.

2. Keep your head still – Moving your head will affect your shot. If you have to, use a neck brace during practice.

3. Keep the ball in-line with your sternum – The sternum is the perfect measuring point for your stance.

Golf Swing Instruction

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Let us examine two of the most common problems encountered by golfers during their swing and find out how we can become better at our swing.

1) The first is keeping the head down. If you want to “top the ball”, you should not lift your head during a swing. A “Scrull” or “major top” will usually produce a bounding ball and will be devastating and impossible to control. It is important to practice keeping your head down until you hear the chip land, and at that time lift your head so as to see the result of your shot.

2) The second is practice hitting your club in multiple ways. For example take a full swing, a short chipping swing and a half strength swing. Practice makes perfect before any game and if you make a note of your practice swings then you will be apply what you have learned on the course.
