Anti-Slice Golf Instruction

Monday, August 30th, 2010

A slice for a right handed golfer is a shot that starts to the left of the target line and veers off quickly to the right. Most amateurs suffer from the slice, causing them to shoot bad scores. One of the fundamental tenets of anti-slice golf instruction is that the slice is caused by an open club face. However, with modern cameras and physics, it has been shown that this thought is flawed.

Indeed, the main cause of the slice is a closed club face, which causes the ball to start to the left initially. What imparts the slice spin is the path of the club head relative to the club face angle. In the case of a slice, the path is too out to in, which imparts the spin.

How much can individual lessons help my game?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Before you take the dive and start with one-on-one golf instruction, you should go over the advantages and disadvantages of this sort of approach. Can individual lessons truly make me better or am I wasting my time? Some people think that once you reach a certain level, one-on-one golf instruction is unnecessary. This is just not true, as even the best players in the world still use a swing coach.

The growth that you can make as an individual has everything to do with how much time you put into the game. Some players will just take lessons and leave it at that. Other players will leave the instruction period and practice the things they have learned. No matter what your handicap is, application of principles will bring it down a few notches.

Henry Penick’s Little Red Book of Golf provides golfers of all ages and levels an enjoyable and anecdotal reading experience. Based on years of teaching many golfers, including some of the greats, Penick provides excellent and easy to follow instruction. However, instead of bombarding the golfer with a list of mechanical jargon, Penick provides basic concepts will real life illustrations. Whether talking about a young wife who never played golf before learning how to hit the ball straight or the ego checks some of his pros received at tournaments, every section of the Little Red Book of Golf is a great reading experience. Penick’s tone makes you want to do the things he suggests and following his tips and hints will improve your golfing experience.

Take Advantage of an Online Golf Lesson

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Since most of us who take up the game of golf aren’t pro golfers, it’s difficult to carve out the time needed to really improve our game. In reality, where we want one-on-one instruction, it’s hard enough to fit in an actual game without also trying to find time to drive out to see a golf pro and take a lesson.

But, there is another way.

Taking an online golf lesson can improve your game and fit into whatever your schedule might be. You could even be on the road, or relaxing at home, still fitting in a golf lesson to improve your swing.

The advantages of an online golf lesson are great for those of us with limited time.

Do Only Pros Invest in Golf Swing Instruction?

Friday, June 18th, 2010

You don’t have to be a professional golf player to want to improve your game and enjoy yourself more on the golf course. In fact, if you continue to make the same mistakes over and over again, you will inevitably get frustrated. This happens to many new golf players and after investing in expensive equipment, they give up the game before they ever get started.

Just a few lessons in golf swing instruction will improve your game exponentially. You can get these in person with a professional golfer who also gives lessons or you can opt to watch videos that are dedicated to golf swing instruction. Even after you learn the basics, it can take a while to hone your skills but it is important to learn the proper swing technique when it comes to the game of golf.

Mental Practice

Monday, May 24th, 2010

As novice and intermediate golfers, we require golf instruction lessons in addition to a lot of practice in order to raise the level of our game dramatically. There are many avenues available to us to get that training. Golf instruction lessons are available at the course, at the range, in books, on demand on our televisions, and even online. Online golf instruction lessons are especially convenient since they are so diverse, and they allow us to practice at any time of the day or night and from the comfort of our homes. Sometimes it takes some convincing in order for a golfer to believe that online golf videos can help him or her. People don’t generally respect the value of mental practice until they’ve experienced the results.

Youth Golf Course Instruction

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Many golf courses throughout the country have begun offering free golf course instruction for young people. My own local course began a similar program just last year, and in order to recruit instructors they offered members free rounds in exchange for donated time. I became involved in the youth golf instruction for selfish reasons, in order to take advantage of that program, but I kept at it once I realized how rewarding the experience was. I must admit that I initially expected instructing kids to be a nightmare scenario. Golf is hard, far too difficult for them, or so I thought. I now realize that kids take to it better than the adults do. If you have the opportunity, then donate some of your time to a great youth golf course instruction program.

Thinking Inside-Out

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Golf swing instruction in general is meant to hone a repetitive motion that golfers use to generate consistent contact. Once contact has been repeated effectively, a golfer might show tendencies to slice the ball or push it right. Golf swing instruction for the player who consistently hooks is going to focus on coming from the inside out. Making contact on the inside portion of the ball is necessary to groove a good draw. Draws will initially swing out away from the player, tailing back in on the appropriate trajectory. When a player takes the club back too far to the inside, they may find themselves throwing the club over the top to compensate for the shallow take away, producing slices.

Take it back slowly

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Golf instruction pertaining to the backswing is usually sought as a fix for players who have a tendency hurrying the club down or away. In terms of impact on a swing and its consistency, the backswing is integral and detrimental if not executed properly. To teachers and professional providing golf instruction, backswing issues will be easily identifiable and correctable with consistent good practice. Golfers should take the club back in a controlled manner that keeps everything on plane and working in proper order. Each part of the body starts moving at a different point in the backswing, so golfers who hurry their backswing may be compounding their problems without realizing the negative impact. At the top of the backswing, players should have the body geared up with all moving parts ready to uncoil in synchronization.

There’s Always Something to Learn

Monday, April 26th, 2010

For lovers of the game of golf, there can never be too much time spent out on the golf course. For most of us, though, there’s also always something to learn and that’s where golf instruction comes in.

There are many ways to gain golf instruction that can help us to become better golfers. Some athletes benefit by utilizing golf instruction videos and DVDs that guide them in improving golf swings, putting, and tee shots, among other things.

Many prefer receiving golf instruction in person at their local golf course. Being critiqued in person and being able to have bad habits recognized and fixed with a golf instructor is invaluable in becoming a better golfer.

Golf instruction is sometimes costly, but it’s certainly worth it for anyone serious about golf.
