A Lesson in Putting

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

An important golf lesson is learning how to putt. Probably one third of all your shots is a putt. If you can take a few less putts each round, chances are you’ll score better. A simple tip for becoming a better putter is to relax your grip and make a smooth follow through. Many golfers unknowingly place a death grip on their putter. This inhibits the sense of feel and makes it harder to control your stroke. Make a conscious effort to feel loose. If you have to, shake your arms, stretch or maybe meditate before attempting a putt. While it seems such a simple golf lesson, if you follow this tip, I guarantee you’ll soon be sinking more putts.

Precise Putting

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Precise putting is only going to be achieved through a combination of effectively reading the greens and a smooth, consistent putting stroke. No other aspect of the golf game will take more strokes off of a round than precise putting. Getting to a green in regulation when the putting game is working at a high level results in tons of two-putt pars. When the putting game is very precise, a lag putt up around the cup will usually leave a completely makeable second putt. Precise putting is something that takes countless hours of practice to maintain. Though conditions can vary on a green, once a solid precise putting approach has been established it will continue to pay dividends.
