Use Muscle Memory to Train Your Golf Swing

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

When learning to swing a golf club or trying to improve your swing, practicing the technique known as muscle memory can help you improve your swing. A repetitive motion, done over and over will eventually become a natural motion. You will not have to think about it, so, you can concentrate on other aspects like ball placement or proper club selection.

A good approach to golf swing training is to add weight to the club. You can either buy some small weights that slip over your club or simply swing two clubs at the same time. When you swing with the weights, it might feel a bit awkward. After a while you will adjust and the swing will be more natural. Remove the weights and you’ll be able to swing faster and generate more clubhead speed.

Getting the Best Out of a Beginner Golf Lesson

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Your first golf lesson is the time to start out with an open mind and give full attention to the lessons you will learn. Bad habits in your swing or stance at an early stage can damage your game down the road. When your instructor models how to stand, where to place your hands and how to do a follow through, try to match his or her movements as close as possible. You also must practice these skills after the lesson to help train your muscles to the proper technique. Also, be open to constructive criticism that your instructor offers. This way you can get the most out of your beginner golf lesson.

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Golf swing lessons are an important part of our development throughout our golf careers. However, golf swing lessons are especially important for the novice player. Professional golf swing lessons allow the player to develop proper technique immediately, or at least to know what the bad habits are to avoid. As every golfer knows, the bad habit that we allow to form early becomes a troublesome adversary. Golfers can seek golf swing training from a wide array of avenues, but new players in particular should seek in-person training with a golf pro initially. Golf videos can be a great help down the road, but they are not much use when you don’t realize what it is you are looking for. Once a player has the basic form, sending videotape of their swing to a pro for analysis is a great way to learn while limiting costs.

What does a good book on golf read like?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

If you were assigned to give a grade to a book on golf, then there are some very important factors that you’d have to consider.

Sports books are some of the most popular books on the shelves in general, and that is especially true of golf books. But when you’re choosing a book on golf, what sort of things should you look for? What sort of things set one apart from all the rest?

If you’re looking for a book on golf, then you need to decide if you’d rather have a book of technique or a book of stories. Golf stories are incredibly fun to listen to if they’re written by the right person, but some people would rather read a book on golf that would help them shave strokes off of their score. The choice is up to you, and it really depends upon what sort of reading you are looking to do at the moment.
